CrossRoads

Art Exhibition March 4 – 30
Opening March 7, 6 – 9pm

Endeavor Arts is excited to host a collaboration between Zachary Abbott and Koos de Jongh, street artist and abstract artist respectively. This exhibit is a balance between complimenting and conflicting, presented in a variety of mediums on steel and canvas. Both artists share affinity for the risk and color schemes of street art and they have also been fortifying their abstract techniques.

Twenty-three year old Airdrie muralist Zachary Abbott is passionate about street art with an abstract feeling. He
likes to combine fine art with hand-styles. Bringing these concepts to dimension with aerosol and acrylic processes, they blend into a brilliant juxtaposition. The CrossRoads to Zachary is a mixed media masterpiece with paints spilt, brushed, sprayed, taped and sponged over an industrial steel backdrop and a collection of fine lines.

Koos de Jongh is a self- taught artist from the Netherlands, now residing in Airdrie. He started creating paintings in 2007. He has attended abstract painting classes at the Alberta College of Art and Design and collaborated with
several abstract artists. Most of his paintings are on canvas using acrylics and mixed mediums. The paintings are
abstract and vibrant with extensive use of colour. For CrossRoads, de Jongh combined abstract and street art, both being of interest. He chose a Marilyn Monroe image to anchor the work to honour one of his artistic heroes, Andy Warhol. This is the first project where de Jongh has added spray paint and markers to his art supplies.

Surreal Art exhibit

Surreal Opening Night

On February 8, 6 to 9pm Endeavor Arts Gallery invites you to the unveiling of Surreal, a group exhibition

of three unique artists whose work represents remarkable themes. Connect with them in person
and get deeply immersed in the stories that inspire works featured in the Exposure Festival 2013.

Innocence

Toronto based photographer Laura Paterson weaves an artful stroke with her vintage Holga
camera, capturing emotive scenes with a youthful innocence. With her unique composition
and dreamy effects, Laura’s quiet and peaceful images draw on the viewer’s experience and
perception of common scenes to tell a story.

Alchemy of Light

Also from Toront,o  Bob Carnie’s Alchemy of Light series utilizes the 19th century method of solarization,
which marries light and chemistry to transform common objects into painterly objects. Alchemy of
light began in 2003 and since then Bob’s creative distortion of tones forces the viewer’s eye and
mind to actively move between what’s real and what’s imagined.

Time

Calgary’s celebrated commercial and fine art photographer Jeff Cruz reveals Time. The collection
employs the use of long exposure photography and motion to capture the essence of time. With
varying exposure times and the movement of objects such as headlights, stars and reflected
sunrises seen in a different world.

Graffilthy Art Exhibit Oct 9 – Nov 17

[nggallery id=2]

Graffilthy brings graffiti, the art that is showcased in the underbelly of the city to the pristine atmosphere of the gallery. The installation of a 70ft long mural onto the surface of the gallery is the closest way we thought we could bring some of the true essence of graffiti to such a space. It is our pleasure to show work from graffiti artists from Alberta and British Columbia. The rebellious part of graffiti says it belongs in the street where the art side tries to showcase the talents that these artists have developed. You be the judge.

We work closely with curator Adam Melnyk, who is the author of Visual Orgasm: The Early Years of Canadian Graffiti, which was released in November 2011. He has been documenting graffiti since 1996 and is an expert of the culture.

Exhibit includes:

Afex has been perfecting his graffiti skills since the mid 90’s and has started to develop his presence in the art scene in Calgary.

Gravy brings a fun loving style to the often gloomy side of graffiti. Most recently he has begun doing tattoo work.

Hype is a master with the spray can. He can do letters, characters and signage. His work can be seen all over Victoria, BC.

Pesto has been doing graffiti for over 19 years. He has started doing wood work to bring more life to his artwork.

Rove is all business from his stylish pieces to his precise lines. He is known for bringing the funk.

Servo serves up some mean graffiti with his large letters and big flares. His creative juices are just starting to boil over.

Voes does grimey graffiti and has brought that same style to his art work. He enjoys playing with layers and bringing different dimension to his pieces.
